The short version: Chess Academy does not collect, store, sell, or share any personal information. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. Your rating, puzzle progress, and settings stay on your device.
Chess Academy keeps a small amount of information locally so the app works between launches: your chosen player name, your current rating and band, puzzles solved, tournament progress, and preferences. This is stored in the app’s own on-device storage, is never transmitted to us, and is deleted when you delete the app.
Game Center. If you choose to play online, matchmaking and the exchange of moves are handled by Apple’s Game Center using your Apple Account. Chess Academy only sends the chess moves needed to play the game and receives your opponent’s moves and Game Center display name for the duration of the match. Game Center is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy, and you can manage it in your device’s Settings.
Local network (LAN) play. If you choose to play a friend on the same Wi-Fi network, the app asks for permission to use the local network so the two devices can discover each other (using Bonjour) and exchange moves directly. Only chess moves and the display name you set in the app are exchanged, and nothing leaves your local network. You can decline this permission and still use every other feature.
The “Support the Developer” screen offers optional tips. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details. Tips unlock nothing and are never required to use the app.
Chess Academy is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children. Online play through Game Center is subject to the parental controls and Screen Time settings on the device.
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on our side. To remove all locally stored progress, delete the app from your device.
If the app’s behavior ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated and the effective date above revised before that version is released.
